The 4th grade Science classes went to Eastside Park yesterday, May 16th, 2012. Through the tutelage of City Green they were able to learn about and experience nature in new ways. Our students' learned about the different habitats, compost, and farming.

On Thursday, May 10th the Kindergarten students of PCSST went on a field trip to the Turtleback Zoo in West Orange, NJ. The weather was finally nice and the kids had a great time! At first, the chaperones took their groups of students and wandered around the zoo to see the different animals. The kids loved watching the beautiful leopard sunbathing on top of its rock!

Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology student’s participated in Language Olympiad which was held on May 6 in New York. Our students participated in many different categories. This included poetry recitation, singing in Spanish, Turkish and English, and traditional folk dancing.

Over the weekend of April 21st-22nd, Mr. Miller led a group of 5th graders and their parents to the city of Boston. Students took a historical tour of the Harvard campus, witnessed fantastic exhibits at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, enjoyed a game night with their classmates, interacted with sting rays & sharks at the New England Aquarium, and saw the entire cityscape of Boston at the Skywalk Observatory.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican victory festival observed primarily in Puebla, Mexico and by Mexican-American communities in the United States. This day celebrates patriotism, unity and Mexican heritage. Fiestas are held with music, dancing, parades, and food. Whenever and however it is celebrated, it is a celebration of Mexican history and heritage.

On Thursday, April 26th PCSST first graders were welcomed at the Essex County’s Turtle Back Zoo! We were all eager to roam around the zoo to find all the many types of animals we were learning about in school. We first took a trip to Asia to find the pheasants, mini deer, and a first grade favorite the red panda.

Thursday April 26, 2012 was an exciting night for the second grade students and their parents! Students came in their comfy pajamas and were ready to read! The cafeteria was decorated with a camping theme in order to motivate reading in school and at home. There were tents, lanterns, flashlights, s’mores and more!

On Wednesday April 26th, Detective Dalton Price of the Patterson Police Department came to PCSST to speak with parents, staff and students about the impact of gangs on Patterson. Parents gained awareness in what to watch for and learned how to prevent our students from joining in the dangerous lifestyle.

On Friday April 20th PCSST hosted this year's first outdoor movie night to raise money for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade field trips. Students and their families brought blankets to sit on as they watched Puss in Boots. It was a great chance to spend time together and everyone had a fantastic time!
